Article #7: Delighting in the law of the Lord
Psalm 1:1-3 "Blessed is the man whose delight is in the law of the LORD.
Whatever he does prospers.'" (NIV)
To delight in the law of the Lord is to take pleasure in reading the WORD of God. Appreciate what the WORD says concerning you and your future in Christ.
Delighting yourself in the WORD also means to relish, enjoy, bask in and be satisfied reading the WORD. When you do these things then you are blessed.
You see, friends, in the Old Testament they were trying very hard to obey the WORD. We operate under a new covenant and that is we are doers of the WORD through the help of the Holy Spirit.
To delight is to take ACTION and not be passive. Do you really want to experience the blessings of God? Are you tired of being sick and tired about things not working in your life? Be a doer of the WORD and delight yourself in the law of the LORD.
A lot of times we read the Bible out of compulsion rather than as a way of getting to know the constitution of the Kingdom of Heaven and our King, Jesus Christ. Reading the Bible is a way of getting to know our redemptive rights as Christians and to learn how to love the KING. To live as a true citizen of the Kingdom of Heaven we have to delight ourselves in the law of the LORD.
The benefit for delighting ourselves in the WORD is that whatever we do will prosper. Which means your life, relationship with Christ, your business, your social network, your children, your family will thrive, flourish, do well, show a profit, grow, and generally live the abundant life. Why am I so confident about this? It is because God is "not a man that He should lie." God means what He says and says what He means.
Action Exercise
- Make time to study the WORD this week — Decide which portion of the Bible you'll read and meditate on this week.
- Do the WORD by taking action and each day ask God to help you obey His WORD.
Prayer: Heavenly Father in the name of our Lord Jesus I thank you for your interest in my wellbeing.
Thank you for letting me know how I can be blessed through the reading, meditating and doing of your WORD. Help me through your Holy Spirit to read and understand your WORD as I study. Most importantly help me be a doer of the WORD. Amen.
